Keeping the grey hairs

The conductor and I talked today about getting old, having kids and grey hair. We agreed that we are not going to dye our hair, he told me that someone had already given him instant dye but he could not be bothered to use it. We agreed that it better to take the dye money and buy vitamins and so on to stay healthy. He and I are the same age (39) and he looked like he has less grey hair than me.I know, i watch the grey hair on the head, I not bothered by the beard or the chest or even lower down. A woman told me that I have distinguished grey hair, the kind of thing you tell an old man when you dont want to say he handsome. I still remember as a child though , when 40 seemed old, and the conductor and I talked about that today, and how time fly and we will be  older, even though we still feel like we are teenagers thinking that people who are 40 are old and stupid. Some of our contemporaries have teenaged children writing exams. This age thing is something else. People stop calling

Thinking of marriage

A minibus driver and I talked about married life today. He asked me when next I going Brazil and I told him I dont know, when I feel like I could pick up and go. The man said, what.. you aint married? He said he thought I was married and I look like I have 3 children. I wanted to ask if I look happily married or unhappily married.. the guy looked younger than me and is married for 9 years he say. Another lady tells me that a religious organisation has a marriage bureau and I should register. I felt flattered. I ask him what married life like, he give that strange smile that a lot of guys give when asked what married life like, many of them do not really answer or give the thing which make it sound like if is a lot of pain or is some endurance test to prove masculinity. One or two guys say it okay, others admit that they like their wife, and sometimes it sound like they like marriage like how you like an old chair that you too lazy to change even if the spring does bore you when y

What they are saying about me..

Pandit, Raging homosexual , , hypocrite , doctor, Mr Bean, arrogant, bitter, fair, compassionate, wonderful human being, delusional, egotistic, sad, masculinist..Presidential candidate.. I have to confess, I am always fascinated by what people think about me. People like to say that I am one of those people who don't kay damn   because I do not trouble to shave too much or wear clothes that spend too long under an iron. But truth be told, I love getting the feedback and processing it, I always want to know and to go over it. In my head I try to have some sense of my self. I realise that in the end I am just a bundle of other people's expectations and prejudices, and okay, I confess, I have a lot of fun with what people think I am. The raging homosexual is my favourite, there is something about a raging homosexual .. you know, which sounds like if I  could shout, scream, rage, buse, flare up.. put on bright clothes, and if I could go further... me wearing a golden wig, la

Reflecting on Diwali 2009

Image
Diwali is my favourite festival. One year, Diwali was on my birthday and I felt very special. As a child, Diwali was about diyas and lighting up and the stories and eating. As an adult, , I am preoccupied with keeping the diyas lit though I am also thankful for the breeze.  On the bridge, this Diwali, one of the diyas survived the draught. (not the picture above). After an hour, it remained lit. I am not sure what the science was, behind the material of the wick, the thickness of the wick and the time it spends in the oil. I would love to experiment to find out, but the time just rushes. As I get older, I seem to be obsessed with finding 'meaning' in things. So when I was coming home Diwali night, I saw this one diya staying lit when others went out , I thought of hope and how important it is to keep hope alive.. This year Diwali was celebrated with many happenings. Roger Khan is sentenced, and many of his supporter s in Guyana and abroad feel that a great wrong has been

No Immunity for Predators of Minors

(by Mike James, Catholic Standard, 4 October, 2009 ) No immunity for predators of Minors BY MIKE JAMES Roman Polanski, celebrated Franco-Polish Film director of the Oscar winning Pianist set in Nazi Occupied Poland, and other film classics like Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown, was arrested last week in Switzerland on an outstanding conviction of the rape of a 13 year-old girl in Los Angeles in 1977 when the director was then 44. He ha d been charged with drugging, and then raping and sodomizing the 13 year old girl after he had gotten permission from her mother for him to take photos of her at another movie director’s home for the French edition of Vogue magazine which Polanski was guest editing. Under the US legal option of “plea bargaining” offered so as to spare the child the horror of having to testify to her ordeal in court, Polanski pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of engaging in sex with a minor and was convicted. However, he failed to appear in court on the date set

Hot coconut wax, frozen tangerine yoghurt, intense political conversation, police, tamarind achar, condoms, alcohol, Malaysian puff, pedicure propositions , pre paid meters, barbecue, soul searching, hotel rooms without toilet and bath, soft sofas, sexy kitchen sets and top c .. I went to Guy Expo 2009 At the gate i was shocked to  pay $500 for what I thought  taxpayers probably already pay, but also thought that poverty be damned, the Guyanese there in droves must have nuff nuff money, and also if as the taxi driver said to me,, nobody walking home after .. so all praises to low carbon economy. I like a fool think that the International Pavilion mean that it have international stalls there, but no, when I went in, it was a whole set ah cell phones.. all over the place. So maybe "international" mean that they are selling international things and then I see a big crowd of people near the booth selling biscuit and chocolate and sweetie.. my kind of people. And none of this
