Tomato jubilee of interdependence in Guyana 2026

Tomato jubilee

Man weeding the yard said look you have a tomato plant near the gutter and I said okay, not going to touch it, let me leave it, throw lil water on it.

Seeds from other tomatoes grown in other parts of Guyana (I try not to buy Brazil tomatoes but I not sure.. )settle in the sediment of the gutter which then generate at the side.

I am in awe even though last time the tomatoes dried up before they ripened and then the plant dried up

I have zero expectations when anything grows in the yard.

Tomatoes in the market were 600GYD a pound and visitors who live in other countries with rising prices keep asking me, why are prices so high in Guyana (even as they are high in other places)?

It is not as though we are further from the Strait of Hormuz than anyone else.

I don't know myself but as the nation which I am part of but feel apart from talks about Diamond Jubilee for the Independence and I see that it seems the Government has organised events for those who don't live here and it seems for those who own Diamonds and trade in Diamonds and play with Diamonds (and smuggle Diamonds?)  ,

I feel like the tomatoes growing from the seeds in the gutter from a plant in soil somewhere else in the nation (or in Brazil) have more meaning than Diamonds and so jubilee for the interdependence.

Interdependence

Walking on the road and a big car splashes me and then other cars and so push me off the road, off the 'corner of the road where I try to walk'

but then I laugh with a young migrant selling food that they do not eat , selling food even though they don't have papers to do so and they think the person who own the food stall paying them less as a result.

Laughing with a stranger is jubilee thing when other people who might pledge to 'love their fellow citizen" push you one side as they enjoy the development and transformation which the Diamond signifies.

My tomato jubilee of interdependence has laughing with strangers as an event.

And I see one one people doing things on their own - a small business hosting exhibition and sale of Guyana books, a young Indigenous man encouraging Indigenous music.

I am grateful myself for the collaboration to get writing and other expression going, working for the first time with people who I have not worked with before and we not getting any money out of this.

Second Tomato jubilee event includes working voluntarily with others on new things which celebrate interdependence.

And a one hour conversation about wellness and other things with a woman I know professionally who wanted some information and talking about the weirdness of the men who the courts hold accountable for the behaviour but who are then left on their own to transform. And then follow up conversation with another man who said yes, is okay, give his number to one of those men.

And so another tomato jubilee event is caring in community , working on healing with people who not necessarily close to you.

And another woman reminds me of an event which is about connection with the environment, and another woman reminds me of caring for 'stray' animals and another woman leads the class to connect with spirit and soul

So the other tomato jubilee events to connect with environment, with non-human beings and with the spirit, soul..

Guyana 2026

I pledge myself to..

  1. Laugh with strangers
  2. Work with others on new things
  3.  Care community, healing with others , strangers
  4.  Connect with environment
  5. Connect with non-human beings
  6. Connect with spirit, soul
