"Guyana.. very good country".. astrologer/pundit from India

Hot afternoon , I jump in a bus and sit next to man shorter than me, wearing short pants just like me.  He is on his phone. Language sounds like one of the Indian dialects

We come off at the same stop. He is walking behind me slowly as he finishes his conversation. I stop at a junction and he comes next to me.

"Hello sir, you look like you are a North Indian Hindu" - he tells me .

"Yes, yes.. I am Hindu but from Guyana.. which part of India are you from?"

"Bangalore.. but I live here .. my great-great-grandfather came here .. .. are you born here? "

I say yes. I try to find out more about the great-great-grandfather.. did he come, leave family behind, or did he come and go back.. 

He repeats.." yes yes.. great great grandfather came here.. hundred years ago".  

"I walk with you , I go in the same direction.. "  

 We cross the road and he is walking with me. 

Astrology

 "I am a pundit.. I do astrology.. very good reading".. I say oh.. nice.  I thought of the Pandits who were warning people about the fake astrologers.

I tell him "You have to be careful, astrology is illegal with false promises and so on"

He says 'No , no . I have my papers, everything.. and I have ministers, everybody knows me and comes to me.. "

I say "that is good" .. wondering now which  ministers going to him.. I mean in this elections season never mind who is going to which embassy, I would be curious as to which candidates going to which astrologer and far seeing how they will do (and what if opposing candidates end up at the same person).

"Is good to meet you' he says, takes my hand.. 'very good hand'... 'you have clean heart '.. Part of me is like I hope so,, 'Indian' men over 50 gotta have clean heart as we are prone to heart attacks..

'How you know' I ask him.. , 'I know these things' he tell me.. 'take my number'..

I say no no, is okay, I don't need your number. He says 'are you sure'.. I say I am sure because I might be tempted to go to another scientist with the phone number to see which big ones going for readings.

 Good country..

 I ask him how long he has been here. 'Many years'.. he says. and I wonder how many is many. 

I ask him if he misses home. He says 'no no.. Guyana.. very good country" 

I don't want to ask him if he is voting or so.

"I am going this way"  he tells me.  We shake hands and I go my direction.

  I pass two people speaking Spanish. 

Reach my destination, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese and other nationalities.  

And thinking of the gold man and the amazing story of Brazil, Venezuela, Qatar, Dubai , Gold, millions of dollars and so on, and the enforcers... and money being passed around.

Guyana.. very good country.

Turpentine mango madness

Some of the mango was stuck on the stubble around my mouth. I looked at the mirror, a bit of shame because I had just collected an invitation from a well dressed guy and I wonder how I must have looked to him.. look at dis big man .. he cyan eat mango good . Y ou are 16 years old and many people hope that 16 years old would be close to completing school. I am sorry that we could not make things good for you to be in school. What dreams did you have?
