Sugar, sex and goats that return from the dead

Still from Bad Lucky Goat

Rita from Providencia , Colombia shouts to her brother to "Dash away de head" in an accent sounds almost Guyanese , the head being the head of the goat which Rita and her brother had killed earlier. They are in a boat on the sea whose engine fails. He dashes away the head. The goat then appears to them in all his glory as they head back to the beach.

Goats and devils are common. Maria Govan's beautifully filmed "visually stunning [cliches have their use]" Play the Devi  has a stupid ending that makes the film perfect for religious groups who want to talk about the dangers of rich homosexuals, homosexuality and carnival. But the ending is forgiven because the film is so damned beautiful.

The devil seems at work as it is hard not to laugh as two men in Kafou drive to a ravine in Haiti to dispose of a dead body as the radio plays early morning hymns and greetings, and a policeman/thug discusses his dilemma of getting rid of kidnapped man while he makes a late night snack of peanut butter jelly sandwich and coffee.

Permaculture is explained in Quiet Revolution. Jason, a fisherman talks about cancer and the fish in "Teach a man".   Green and Yellow is about other men living on the streets.

"Yochi' from Belize tells of a young man who makes a decision to return poached yellow parrots to the jungle even though he is desperate for the money. This kind of desperation is dealt with differently as Solomon Dasko's director talks a lot about desperation and blowjobs, about  a man who is addict who is given a choice to perform oral sex on his dealer.

Sugar by Michelle Serieux is about a young woman who is not an addict who has to make a choice about sex for money.  Sex is also in After Mas as a young woman seems to reject the man she had sex with after carnival.

FÉFÉ LIMBE is about the not so young and love and sex and relationships. Some films, like some relationships, don't make sense no matter how interesting they seem, and The Knot by Davina Lee seemed to be one of them. The interesting dance film "Untamed space" had many viewers wondering about it. Viewers loved Short Drop.. about a taxi man and the passengers he meets in a day.

Typhoo the Dutch rapper and other people reconcile the violent history of slavery in Ida Does "Amsterdam:Traces of Sugar" with acknowledging their ancestry.

Slavery and colonialism come back in PANOMUNDO PART 1: THE EVOLUTION OF THE STEELPAN, and in Sorf Hair. Migration is one of the consequences of poverty and Scars: of Our Mother's Dreams is a powerful documentary about children left behind in Grenada. A different kind of migrant story is told in "Babe: I hate to go". Migration has been complex, with all kinds of consequences. However, the Timehri Film Festival 2018 was another free gift to Guyana from Guyana born migrant Romola Lucas and her team including Robert Colom .
