Dear fed up and frightened Hindus in OneGuyana...
Dear fed up and frightened Hindus in OneGuyana
Seeta Ram.
The morning after the OneGuyana Phagwah , one of you expressed your frustration about how the OneGuyana Phagwah thing at the stadium was very far away from what many Hindus would have been hearing in mandir the morning of Phagwah.
While OneGuyana did have a line about 'no alcohol, no meat' , as with so many of the 'messages' is that you can talk one thing but don't really bother about any thing and from my timeline I realised that nuff people enjoyed the OneGuyana Phagwah and as they do with many other of the OneGuyana rules and laws, didn't bother..
Alcohol and Phagwah
Yep, the alcohol and Phagwah thing, like the 2025 Ramnavami date, got different Hindus thinking different things. Some devout Hindus on my timeline ignored the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha's appeal for no alcohol and shared proudly their enjoyment of alcohol with the love and unity.
is controversial. Some of us acknowledge the history of alcohol - as one brother told me that in his day, they started with the Holika ash and as they moved from house to house, to mark the ash on the foreheads of villagers, the householders would share a shot of bush rum.. much like how say we might share lil parsad and gulgula now, and as they would go house to house singing a bottle of rum was left in the middle of the gole.
But many Hindus.. Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, the Gandhi Youth Organisation started to realise that alcohol was destroying us, and Phagwah and so things changed.
And so Phagwah festivities .. some returned to mandirs and so in the afternoons, as people wanted somewhere to go in the afternoon .. but..
So yes, some of you are fed up and frustrated at how OneGuyana is desecrating
A Hindu Society in a school who did their Divali puja and activities on a weekend were told no, no .. OneGuyana requires making it open during the school time.. so OneGuyana then stops the puja.. even as they want the seven curry and rangoli with out the rituals it seems?
Dear fed up and frightened Hindus, did any of you say Phagwah prayers at any of the OneGuyana public workplaces where yall played Phagwah and had 'Indian' food and wore 'Indian clothes?"
PPP on the Navratri altars
"I get a phone call.. I knew it was my time now, they want to come.. I said once they keep fast, I cannot say no " and so it is the PPP phone around the pandits and mandirs it seems, OneGuyana making a move, not only Hindus but non-Hindus as well to show up next to the murtis and 'speak' during Navratra.
And some of you fed up and frustrated Hindus know, you are afraid to say no, and you know.. we do not see non Muslim PPP folks at juma or other important prayers at Maasjids, and maybe there are no Christian PPP folks who speak on Christian pulpits, but not as visible as the invasion of the Navratra puja.
Why this rush to dominate Hindu rituals in OneGuyana? The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha and other Hindus are proudly aligned with the PPP, no Hindu organisation would ever face papp prezzies wrath at Baba Jaan where he said no funding for those organisations which are against the PPP?
But there is a history some of us heard about the complexity of the PPP and Hinduism.. that in the early days that Marxism meant no faith, and as a PPP member returned to the faith reminisced to me.. "you know in we young days we had to lash the beef and pork to show that we not religious."
So is OneGuyana, born out of this fear that Hindu values and beliefs will run counter to the OneGuyana cussing up of anyone who doesn't agree with OneGuyana, and the other problems which you dear fed up and frightened Hindus talk about.. is OneGuyana trying to destroy Hinduism while trying to keep the 'culture'?
So while prominent Muslim organisations can join with OneGuyana to design and format the 'National Ramadan Village', no Hindu organisations seem to be involved in the OneGuyana Phagwah festival which so many of you wondered about - quietly?
Prahalad
So many of us are afraid.. we don't want to talk up because PNC might come back ; and is better the devil we love than the one we don't love (and some of you did try in 2014/2015 to give the PNC a chance but.. ) .. but in the weirdness we hear 'there is no opposition' because we hoping the PNC (as opposition) would force OneGuyana to be decent and demonstrate the Hindu qualities we are aspiring to.. when PNC itself was born out of the same mess that the PPP was born out of and seem to have the same destiny.
And the Hindus who when allegations of rape and child abuse surface against OneGuyana leaders, they have to stay silent and do nothing..
And we don't want to talk up because the new Gods who give us things , could easily take them away from us and so we continue, frustrated , afraid and hoping that things will get better.., and none of us might want to accused of using buckets instead of toilets, and being wannabee gangsters.. (the Bhagvad Gita Chapter 16 is clear about these qualities and asks us to watch our selves ..
And we ignore the story of Prahalad who stood up to his father (and not to some unseen enemy); and to Arjuna who had to fight family and so on when family start doing stupidness..
Dear fed up and frightened Hindus, do you feel that your values, as you are learning them are really reflected in the way OneGuyana operating?
Don't you think you deserve to have some input (like how the Muslim organisations do at the National Ramadan Festival) into how OneGuyana is representing Hinduism?
Yours sincerely
A fed up and sometimes frightened Hindu who deh far from OneGuyana
