Man sends me a socialist propaganda film from Guyana 1972 and I was like hang on a minute, where the coolie and the Indigenous and other people in it? 

The film maker might only have had access to descendants of the enslaved Africans ,and it was only at the end that there were some children who could be descendants of immigrants from India.

I am racial like that when hearing 'Guyana' and people from 'Guyana' and so and looking to see who look they descended from where or mixed up, and counting. 

Sometimes I count gender representation first. 

When I see the things about 'You know you is Guyanese when.. ' and nuff of the things don't apply to me. 

But in this day and age, with AI , I check to see if 50 years later, how has the data from the digitised images and stories about Guyana fed into the AI Image generation

And the prompt People from Guyana in the garden delivers this as one image , and the house in the back could be a house from Guyana and the coconut trees and so. 

 

And I try to see if another prompt 'Guyanese people in a garden would work' and I get the image at the top of this blog and this one here with the different houses , and the one man in a turban wrapped like Sikhs in India..



And so it is that as AI grows and being used to generate things and so about us and for us, how will be represented?

Turpentine mango madness

Some of the mango was stuck on the stubble around my mouth. I looked at the mirror, a bit of shame because I had just collected an invitation from a well dressed guy and I wonder how I must have looked to him.. look at dis big man .. he cyan eat mango good . The uncomfortable white man in the room with history..

  "Is what dey had at .." the taxi man asked me.  Driver from reliable taxi service. Car is old. Man looks old, cap, copper bangle on his left hand. Car not too far left of the road as bright lights seem to blind the man and car seem to move left then right.   Driver talked as some do, he used to work in the printing industry.  I explained that it was a gathering, a British photographer doing something with old time photo processing plates and so. Taxi man said he would have liked to see that.   Truth was, I could not really explain what dey had because I do not know the technical language of photography. or Art.
