Corruption, rape, Indifference to Guyana's Independence while watching rain through open window
One of them days when rain falling, windows have to close, rain stop, place hot, windows have to open. Then rain start falling , in that kind of straight way when no breeze blowing and it is possible to leave the window open, look out.
A kind of brave crazy thing to do because if rain blow in and wet up the place in this season it will take long to dry.
But is nice though, kind of enjoying the rain while sheltering - well in places where the roof not leaking.
There is a nice lush wetness. Mosquitoes buzzing around in the day time as is now the norm , sometimes more than night time. Rains welcome though after a long hot dry season which did not kill off the mosquitoes. Things different these days, climate and so.
Same day as I enjoy the rain through the open window, some strange news about the PPP's 'plans' to deal with corruption. , having sting operations and so. A few months ago, the Government 'disputed' the corruption allegations and now what..the "anti-corruption framework" fall apart?
Like.. what, aren't there statutory and institutional systems in place right now to pick up corruption as part of the normal operations.. checks and balances and so?
Same day as I enjoy the rain through the open window a woman asks me about the beating children in Guyana's schools and the death of all work to try to stop the beating. The violence continues.
The woman asks me about the rape story and so, but I explain to her that I have to be silent about this rape story , even as my silence does not protect me (yes, Audre Lorde) and the 'law' has taken its course.
The same 'law' which allows the abuse of children in Guyana's schools and which does not give abusers the chance to be accountable and to begin their own healing from the trauma and violence they experienced and which they inflict on others in Independent Guyana.
People will be 'loving' Guyana again this weekend , and I think about the woman on TV on the day I enjoy the rain through the open window talking about how opposite of love is not hate, is indifference.
Yeah.. Guyana independent and so, but corruption, rape, beating children all part of the independence they celebrating.
Breeze starts blowing, and rain will come in and wet up the place and in this season, it takes long to dry out inside.
So I close the window which I am lucky to have. But I will have to go out in the rain sometime.
