Loving Guyana from an imaginary mountain top where 33, 34 and 0 mean the same thing..

I did not vote in 2015 and will not be voting in the next General elections and people say that I should shut up.

With all the interest in STEM and so on, and all the  Maths I did in school, apparently it is possible to write Constitutions and create Nation States so that you need 34 rather than 33 people out of 65 to form a 'majority'.

On the day that the highest court in the land by a 'majority' said that what we learn in Maths and STEM and so on is not the same thing as in what is written in law, and that when you dealing with 65 people, 34 rather than 33 is the majority.

On the day of the ruling, the minibus is driving on the parapet, playing loud music, school children inside , and trying to jump a traffic light. On the day of the ruling, another bus driver curses the traffic police.. 'good fuh yall, yall gah deh in de hot sun.. .. yall only harassing bus driver'... the war between some bus drivers and the police part of the division in the country.

On the day too, I talked with a guy about traveling to the Rupununi, and we talked about how it nice to take the ferry across the Essequibo River.

Guyana has nice mountains far away, I have been on one or two hills and it is nice to look down.

Buddhist philosophy is that sometimes you have to go up on a mountain so that you could love and so and not be caught up, not be attached .. too look down on the bus driver and the police and love them both, to look down on that needed 34 to the majority, and those that insisted that 33 is the majority and to love them all because loving is better than being afraid.

But on this mountain though, it is realising that more and more , in this madness of 34 to win, or 33 to win.. that nobody is really winning, because winning is about maintaining division, it is about the lesser of two evils, and my side is good, and your side is evil.   Being on the mountain is different from being in the middle where all you can hear and see is the despair, or the triumphalism and the hatred. There is no middle though really.

"Remember the evil PPP", and the PPP lovers say  is not as bad as now or before the PPP. "Remember the evil PNC, which the PNC loverswas never evil but outside circumstances caused the terror of the PNC times.

We never get to sort out the minibus drivers and the police and the health system and the education system. We never get to write a document to recreate the nation so everyone understands it the same way.

I can't go anywhere else. I have to live here, this playground of the political parties and now the Oil companies which will be taking out the oil.  I can't change anything.

And where people are played skillfully.

Most I can do is love those that are fearful and hating of others. Love them without indulging their fear or hatred.
From the mountain, far away, I can view them all, see the differences but not be bothered by them.

Until somebody destroys the mountain and me with it.

  1. Fear nutures hatred and from a distance, mountain or plain, one sees why it grows.......so what can be done to dispell the fear....in lands where we are alike what is the root of the big divide.....fear...the question is how much have I done to lessen or contribute to that f e a r in this land......
