$300Million and why I staying far from the 50 years/ Golden jubilee

I walked into the lab at UG  to deliver my lecture on online journalism. Normal stuff, should expect Internet and so. Some janjat, Internet not there.. or rather what is there can't really allow a video or so to stream nicely so that the students could see what people can do with the Internet.

 I want to go home after having prepared the nice thing. There is going to be some challenge.  I know that I have no intention of celebrating no Independence because we not really independent. There is a kind of superficial fakeness, urgency about the golden jubilee .. we must celebrate or else!!!!

But I celebrate every day I wake up generally.  Here is why I plan to stay far, even if will might not be possible

• $300 million dollars on 50th birthday party is nuff money. I really don't care for song and dance and float and so on, not when the economy is in a mess, when sugar Workers at Wales not sure what happening . Guyanese know how to have a good time,the state does not have to pay for it.
• Too many people in Guyana Cannot read and write. There is no urgency about changing that situation. There are people who could teach them to read and write but nobody will pay them to do it, and the people who cannot read and write ,.. many of them are busy hustling and struggling so time to learn to read and write not so important.
• We still have to debate whether children should be beaten in schools, whether a counsellor has to be in school and there is no clear guideline that the teachers would be allowed to deal with their pain and so on before they design costumes and plan programmes to encourage children to love the Nation while they have a ruler or wild cane in hand.
•  LGBT citizens gotta keep saying waiting for parliament to change the laws which leave them as non-citizens, without protection from discrimination. What independence from what we celebrating?
• While we spending money on partying, we apparently have to take 'generous gifts of helmets, handcuffs and gloves' from the USA. What Independence from what?
• There are many organisations who would like to do work to deal with some of the violence and crime, but funding is restricted. They might not want a piece of the $300 million.
• El Nino deh bout. It will be tough on many who need water for their livelihoods. 
•  There is too much stupidness about how many people coming back for Jubilee and there is this kind of manic hysterical thing, ow lard let dis ting be worthwhile before we get shame.  The push fuh dis ting seem to be about a 'show' rather than working on any meaningful activities to strengthen feelings of citizenship. 
• Nothing to celebrate for me when democracy seh dat slap-and-strip-bheri and anil are in parliament and being paid by tax payer money.

The list could go on. Things could change. I have no problems singing and dancing with taxpayer money at the  51st if these things are fixed.
