Student, teacher, carpenter, labourer, sales rep - People's Parliament

The law student looked at me as though I was mad when I asked him if he would come spend a few minutes at the People's Parliament.  We were talking about law and so on and rights.  But this is not how he imagines public discussion about rights.

The carpenter said that he passed plenty times but never stopped. He said is a good thing to have this thing where people talk. He finds that Guyanese are not proud of their country like how Jamaicans and Trinidadians are. He said that this race thing got to stop.. he is mixed race and he learns from everybody. He says that we need each other - he said that as a carpenter he could look down on the labourers who work on his worksite, but then the carpenter would not do the labourer work. He has a lil cough though, so he going home. He cannot stay on. He did not want to be recorded.

The teacher is young. He pass and then stops. He teaches at one of the problem schools - he has been a teacher for 7 years. He does not have to beat children - he tries to work with them . Sometimes he has to help students with lunch and materials for their assignments. Some students walk from far to reach to school. He studying though so he is busy, he does not take on other things like politics and so on. He talk long.. but he said he did not want to write anything on the paper.

The labourer said budget is hard.. by the time his passage pay a lil bit money is left back. He thinks the bush has money but the malaria - he don't want malaria. He glad to work. He said that there is need for a leader of all six races and who is humble to all the people. He said corruption has to stop as well. He asked me to write his thoughts on the paper since he does not like to write.

The sales rep passed a few times before but now stopping. He moves in and out of Guyana . He says everything is okay but he wishes that there is no discrimination against gay and lesbian people . He said that people should realise that gay and lesbian people are just like other people. He writes this down on the card board.

Others pass - they ignore, they say that they bruks so dont have no money to give.
